“I am vengeance! I am the night! I am Batman!”

Original art by Mauricio Abril.

A young Bruce Wayne alone in a dark living room, watching tv after the loss of his parents.

At least, that’s what I envisioned when I saw the image by Mauricio Abril. However, it is a tribute to one of the best produced animated series, Batman: The Animated Series, which was developed by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski. It was designed to mimic the title cards shown at the beginning of every episode, which was an absolutely brilliant decision by Abril.

For the uninitiated, Bruce Timm is responsible for the best animated series out there, which includes Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures, Justice League, Justice League unlimited, Batman Beyond, and Static Shock. If he did a series revival for any of the aforementioned series, there is no doubt it would be amazing. It is doubtful, however, as he stepped down as DC animation supervising producer, who knows if they will ever be able to recapture the level of storytelling he was able to bring to the table, time and time again.
