Tales of the Jedi (2022) Review

Drawing inspiration from a comic-books series of the same name (1993–1998) Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi explored the Jedi as complex figures that could at times operate in the gray. Star Wars Writer/Director/Producer Dave Filoni gives us a refreshing new series that honors the legacy of the series that inspired it.

Bringing back with him Clone Wars series regulars Ashley Eckstein (Ashoka) and Corey Burton (Count Dooku). He also manages to bring a special guest, Mandalorian alum Bryce Dallas Howard (Yaddle), and a surprise appearance by Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jin. I only wish Samuel L. Jackson had also been brought back to voice his character, Mace Windu.

Count Dooku was arguably a two-dimensional villain in the prequels (owing to the fact that Jar Jar Binks was being primed as sith in disguise before fan backlash pushed series creator George Lucas to pivot… or so the murmurs claim), which was a shame because it wasted veteran actor Christopher Lee in the role.

Filoni seeks to rectify this by winding the clocks backward and allowing us to meet the count in his youth, a Jedi master with Qui-Gon Jin as his Padawan. His position as Jedi master is compelling, reminiscent of the same…
